Brad's Guide to Chameleon Chic
!
Two times winner of the Australian hairdressing industry’s most prestigious awards, ‘2005 and 2006 Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year’, Brad Ngata, gives an easy great step-by step to transform your look from day to evening or event. His ‘Chameleon Chic’ gives you the techniques, the products and the confidence….
City Sleek...

- Take the section of hair from the back of the crown and the hair layers from the back middle of the head and pin up out of the way.
-Create a side part.
-
Slick down all the hair from the crown forward, neatly and securely with a gel or smoothing serum, making sure to keep a precise part-line. Brad particularly loves KMS California Hairstay Styling Gel because it never flakes or damages hair but has amazing hold.
- Slicking the hair from the side and back over the ears, pill into a ponytail at the nape and secure with a silicone band.
-
With the section of hair that was pulled away and pinned at the top while you slicked the rest, now allow it to drop back over the ponytail at the centre of your back and use ghd irons to straighten this free-falling hair.
The end result: A panel section of straightened hair falling freely from the crown and over the gelled ponytail you had created. The contrast is loose and free at the back with slicked and elegant from the front and sides. chic, sophisticated and perfectly groomed.

LA Chic...
- Using a medium-barrelled curling iron, curl the hair from the mid lengths to ends using KMS California Curl Up Hot Spiral Spray. This will enhance pliable curls without crunchiness, as well as provide protection from thermal tools.
- Make sure that when winding around the curling iron, you always wind the hair over and forward. Be careful to avoid the slicked top section of hair.
- Once finished, brush the curls out with a large toothed comb and allow the hair to settle into this beautiful 1940’s silhouette.
Individual...
- Use your creativity to dress the look up further and make it ‘your own’.
- Here Brad has tied from under the tape on top of the head with a satin ribbon, used bobby pins to secure it, and then added a touch of bling with a diamante brooch.
- You could just as easily use your favourite scarf, a headband, a turban, or secure in a necklace or brooch…or go for the fabulous enormous gemstones that are the latest range on the runway by designer, Marc Jacobs!

Evening or Events
- To transform the look for evening or a special occasion, backcomb the hair from the mid lengths - again, being careful to mess up the gelled top and front area – and pull the backcombed hair up towards the crown and secure with pins.
- Finish with a light spray of KMS California Hairstay Medium Hold for perfect long-lasting support of the style.
- The look has now become a cute, but undeniably glamorous, updo and was so easy to achieve! Great for that special evening event or for the bride and bridal party.
