|Interview: Samantha Jade |

Australia’s own pop starlet Samantha Jade keeps on rising with her track, I Need You Now, included on music legend David Guetta’s fourth studio album; One Love. Samantha Jade, whose own smash hit single Secret has also been released this month, is the only Australian artist to feature on Guetta’s album, among the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Kelly Rowland and Ne-Yo.

Samantha’s self written debut single Secret, produced by Swedish producer Chris Judge, has just been added to Austereo’s Hot 30 countdown.  The single has already captured the attention of radio and TV with strong additions throughout the country including a Video Hits promotion run which kicked off on the weekend.

Coming up next, Samantha Jade will be at the National Breast Cancer Global Illumination event hosted by Sarah Murdoch in Sydney on September 24, performing a song she has written specifically for the charity event.  Samantha will also be performing on October 3 in Perth for Channel 7’s live telethon 24-hour appeal event.

Both Secret and One Love: I Need You Now are available through iTunes now.

B&L: Tell us about your debut single, Secret...

Samantha: Secret is a fun and flirty pop song, something to throw on and listen to while your getting ready to go out with your girlfriends!

B&L: You got discovered at the age of 14, how did this happen?

Samantha: I was discovered at a family gathering actually.  My family are all in bands and they would always ask me to get up and sing.
This particular day there was a guy in the audience who knew one of my family friends and also had a contact in America in the music industry… the rest is history!

B&L: What was it like leaving Perth and moving to the US

Samantha: It was really exciting at the beginning, moving countries and all!  Since I was based there for so long I did really start to miss Australia. Now I try and come home as much as possible because I seriously miss it so much when I’m away.

B&L: Have you always loved to sing?

Samantha: Absolutely, since I was as small as I can remember I’ve always loved music and loved to sing!

B&L: How do you feel when people compare your voice to Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera?

Samantha: It is such a huge honour; I am so privileged to be in a category with my idols.

B&L: What has been the hardest thing about pursuing a music career?

Samantha: Probably the sacrifices that you have to make. I love it and I would never think about doing something else but this career is more than just a job, it is your whole life.

B&L: When you first heard Secret on the radio, how did you react?

Samantha: I was so excited I turned it up and had tears in my eyes!

B&L: How do you like to spend your spare time?

Samantha: I use all my downtime to just chill out!  Since I’ve been away from my friends and family I use all the time I can to just hang out and spend time with them.  And shop, of course!

B&L: How would you describe your fashion style?

Samantha: I have a very classic style. I don’t ever try and stick just to fashion trends.  Even though I love most of them I always stick to things that suit my body shape and look.

B&L: Who are your favourite musicians right now?

Samantha: I love Ne-Yo, Mario, Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Christina Aguilera, and the classics like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.

B&L: Do you get nervous before performing?

Samantha: Absolutely, I always get butterflies before I go on stage!

B&L: What are you currently working on?

Samantha: At the moment I’m promoting Secret and soon I’ll be back in LA for a short period, recording a new track. After that I’m back in beautiful Australia to release my next single and perform some gigs!

B&L: What does being a woman mean to you?

Samantha: I love being a woman and embracing all that we as women have to give. Independence, strength and knowing your worth is important. As long as you have those three things down you’re good to go.
